Florida Getaways on the Sun Coast of Florida

Looking for great Florida Getaways? The Sun coast is the perfect for those looking for a sun-drenched subtropical paradise! This coast is best known for its award-winning beaches, beautiful clear water, and its many days a year you get to enjoy its brilliant sunshine! The Sun coast is said to have more days of sun than even Honolulu! While there are many many places that would make a great getaway on Florida's Sun Coast we decided to get right to it and suggest a few of our favorites to get you started...

Florida Getaways - Treasure Island

The first thing that comes to mind when you hear of Treasure Island is chests of treasure, pirates, and adventure! That may have been the case once upon a time but now people are drawn here from all over the world to experience its wide sandy beaches, pristine waters, and close proximity to notable areas like Tampa, Saint Petersburg, and the theme parks of central Florida.

For a unique romantic place to stay on Treasure Island, we recommend Beach House Cabanas. This little boutique hotel has colorful yet cozy decor and a beautiful patio with fire pits, romantic lighting, and lighted fountains. It's a perfect place for enjoying the balmy night breeze with a glass of wine while snuggling with your sweetheart. It's also located just steps away from the gorgeous beaches, and St Johns pass!

If you love old Florida charm but appreciate all the modern conveniences we recommend Sunset Inn & cottages located on sunset beach in treasure island for your Florida getaway. Decorated with bright cheery colors in the true Florida style this place really feels like a Florida escape. It also has a rich history and is beloved by both tourist and locals.  The rooms are funky and fun with an almost key west feel. The courtyard is equipped with gas grills and Tuscany lights that set a soft romantic mood. Be sure to try the owners Laurie and Michele's signature drink, The Sunset Salutation which you can often find serving up themselves. This is one of those places you truly arrive as a stranger and leave as family!

Florida Getaways -
Clearwater

Clearwater is widely known for its sugar sand beaches and clear crystal waters.  The scenic beauty of the area combined with the many attractions of the city makes it an ideal spot for a sun coast getaway.

Sand key park and sand key beach: Sand key is a 95-acre barrier island that's fun to explore or just lounge around on the many miles of stunning beaches. It's a great place to go if you are looking for something less crowded than the fun but busy Clearwater Beach. Be on the lookout for sea turtles in the spring and summer as it's a popular turtle nesting spot. If you like birding sit on one of the benches along the salt marsh and observe the local wildlife.

Pinellas Trail: If you get tired of lounging on the beach (although we are not sure that's possible) and want a little urban adventure the Pinellas trail is a must see.  The 35-mile trail goes through parks, neighborhoods, and beautiful coastal areas from St. Petersburg all the way to tarpon springs.

Pier 60 Park and Sunsets at Pier 60: This place is a nightly festival with street performers, vendors, artists, and musicians. It's a gathering place to celebrate the spectacular sunset every evening. It opens two hours before sunset and last two hours after.  Grab your love and take a stroll along the promenade and take in all the sights and entertainment complete with a sunset finale!

Honeymoon Island State Park/ Caladesi Island: Just north of Clearwater across the Dunedin causeway lies Honeymoon island state park. This large barrier island has some of the best beaches in the country. Enjoy the miles of sandy trails and various habitats to explore.  The shelling is great and the beaches are unspoiled the way beaches were meant to be!

Where To Stay: For something a little different then a run of the mill beach-side resort the Barefoot Bay Resort and Marina is a great little family owned place to book with charming rooms and a stunning inter-coastal view. Located in the center of clear water beach everything you need is just a short walk away. You will love lounging on the deck by the water while watching the boats come and go.  Take an evening stroll on the marina pier and look for marine life in the water below.  If you are lucky you might even sight a dolphin or manatee!

If you like a little pampering and a full resort experience you will love Hilton Clearwater Beach Resort & SPA! Set on 10 acres of private beach dotted with cabanas offering delicious food and drinks and a beach front tiki bar this place really has it all! It also several on-site dining options, multiple beach-side pools,  and a luxurious full-service hibiscus spa!
